Welcome to classicism: Probably the most important porcelain series of that era is a homage to the ancient world, because it combines objectivity, rigor and symmetry in an unmistakable form. As early as 1790, Peter Biron, Duke of Kurland (1724-1800), commissioned this series, which was later named Kurland in his honor. This noble service from the Königliche Porzellanmanufaktur Berlin is decorated with relief bouquet compositions of field and meadow flowers as well as grasses and butterflies. Kurland Royal Noir is the second service that was created in the course of KPM Berlin's 250th anniversary. The color black is staged in a pompous way. The elegant color already fascinated the impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir "It took me forty years to realize that black is the queen of colors" and the fashion designer Coco Chanel "black stands out".
